Matthew 9:13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I will have mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to Repentance.
Yesterday we celebrated the Birth of Christ. We call it Christmas, and it was the day in history that changed the entire world. Even our historic dateline is hinged on this day. B.C. Before Christ and A.D. After the Death of Christ. But why did God send Jesus?
In Matthew 9:13, Jesus tells us the answer to that question. But go and learn what this means: ‘I will have mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to Repentance.
Jesus instructs us to, "go and learn what this means:" The sacrificial system had turned into nothing more than a ritualistic practice the faithful Jews followed every day. It had no real spiritual meaning to most of them.
Today, any form of work or sacrifice will not bring Salvation. That comes only by the Mercy of God which is granted only through Repentance and the acceptance of Jesus as your personal Savior, which is the Call of God on every person.
Today, there are millions of people who go to church every week, but there is no spiritual significance to their attendance. Like the Jews at the time of Jesus' Birth, it is no more than a ritual. God cares nothing about ritual. His concern is for every individual soul, and He gave His Only Son that everyone may be saved!
We are all sinners and have fallen short of the Glory of God. The Lord calls us to repent and seek His Mercy. When we do, He will always grant us forgiveness, and we will be saved, healed, and delivered from bondage.
However, it all does not happen immediately or at once. It is a process called Sanctification. This is the purpose for God sending His Only Son, so that we may repent, be saved, and born again. But that is only the beginning. From that day forward, the Lord will continue to do His Work in our lives to bring us closer to Him. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
This is one of the wonderful Promises of God, but like so many of His Promises, it begins with the little word, "if." IF we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Everyone wants to be forgiven by God, but that only happens when we confess our sins to Him in sincere repentance. As we make confession of our sins a daily practice and truly seek the Mercy of God, our habits will change. He will give us new desires and wants. We will want more of Him and less of the world.
God is amazing! Give Him a chance in your life. He will keep every Promise.....IF.....you humble yourself and go to Him in true Repentance and confess your sins.
Give God a chance, He will........turn the tide
Loving Jesus, Doreen
