God's Best

Acts 10:10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw Heaven opened…..

It was noon, time for lunch. Peter was very hungry. While the meal was being prepared, he went up on the roof to be alone and pray. While he was praying, he was caught up in a trance. The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw Heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth.  In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.   And a Voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.”  This was done three times. And the object was taken up into Heaven again.

God had something very important to tell Peter that had to do with the dietary laws of the past. Due to the Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, all the old laws were no longer in effect. To keep these laws now would be a sin against God, proclaiming that Jesus’ Sacrifice on the Cross was not sufficient.

The Law was all they knew. They had been taught these Laws their whole lives. There were foods they did not eat, period! These foods were considered to be unclean or common. While in the trance, Peter argued with God and said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”  Peter had never in his life broken a dietary law.

What the Lord was showing Peter was that all those Laws had been fulfilled by the Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. God had to repeat Himself because Peter was not getting the message. This was done three times. And the object was taken up into Heaven again.

God will repeat Himself and tell us things over and over again because He wants us to grow in our faith and understand His Ways. In this case, after showing Peter this same thing three times and actually speaking to Peter in an audible voice, the Lord took the object up into Heaven again.

Peter had heard the Word of the Lord and saw the Vision God gave him. Now it would be up to him whether to hear and believe the Words and Message of the Lord, or not.

When we become hungry for a Word from the Lord, we seek a quiet place to pray. Like Peter, the Word of the Lord is oftentimes not what we want to hear. God will never enable us in our sin. He brings correction to our lives as He molds and shapes us into someone He can use in a greater capacity. Be open to the Lord’s correction. He is your Creator and your Heavenly Father. He only wants the best for you. Trust Him to know what’s best.

Only God can……..turn the tide
