God's Divine Nature

2 Peter 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious Promises, that through these you may be partakers of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The old man is corrupt in nature. He is sinful and evil. The old man cannot help but sin because he is dominated by the sin nature that he was born with.

The new man is Righteous and Holy in Nature. He cannot sin because he is dominated by the Divine Nature of God. He received this Divine Nature when he was born again.

There is a Scripture that seems confusing to many people but when we understand the sin nature and the Divine Nature, it all makes perfect sense. The Apostle John wrote on this subject. Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. As you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices Righteousness is Righteous, just as He is Righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. (1 John 3:4-9)

Every born-again believer in Christ has the sin nature and the Divine Nature of God in him. The question is: Which nature is dominating him? We all have the ability to sin because the sin nature is still in us. We also have the ability to be Righteous because we also have the Divine Nature living within us.

John wrote Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. (1 John 3:9) This is the Scripture that confuses people because we all know that even though we are born-again believers in Christ, we can sin and at times we do sin. So, what is the explanation?

The new man who is Righteous and Holy in nature cannot sin because he is the Divine Nature of God. God cannot sin. Jesus cannot sin. The Holy Spirit of God cannot sin. Likewise, the new man cannot sin either. The new man is the Divine Nature of God within us. Every believer is the Temple of God. The Holy Spirit of God dwells within the new man. Therefore, the new man cannot sin because he is Divine in Nature.

Every born-again believer in Jesus Christ has BOTH the old man and the new man ministering to them. The devil wants us to sin. He is the old man. The Holy Spirit wants us to be Righteous and Holy. He is the new man. One will dominate the other given the circumstances at hand. The goal is to live and operate under the dominion of the new man all the time.

Jesus said, Abide in Me, and I in you. (John 15:4) When we abide in Christ we will be dominated by the Holy Spirit of God and appear as the new man. Can we do this all the time; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? It’s possible, but not probable given the fact that we must live in this evil world.

Which nature will dominate you today? Now that you understand this Biblical concept, pray for God’s Divine Nature to dominate you today. Abide in Christ and He will abide in you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. The closer you stay to God, the more the Divine Nature will be apparent in you.

The Truth of the Word of God will……..….turn the tide……….in your life.

Dominate my life, Jesus.       Doreen
