Habakkuk 1:5 Behold you among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days, which you will not believe, though it be told you.
Habakkuk was a Prophet of God who was deeply disturbed by the violence and corruption in his nation. He could see his entire country crumbling right before his eyes. This had been going on for a long time, and he cried out to God, saying, O Lord, how long shall I cry, and you will not hear? Even cry out unto You of the violence, and You will not save? (Verse 2)
The Lord’s answer to Habakkuk was repeated by the Apostle Paul some 700 years later as he sought to fulfill his mission to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles and Jews who were bound up in the Law of Moses. As Paul taught the Message of the Cross of Christ and of the coming Judgement of God, he spoke the Words of the Prophet Habakkuk to those who did not believe.
Paul was a student of the Prophets. He had committed to memory much of their Words and as he preached to a group in the synagogue, the Words of the Lord to Habakkuk returned to his mind and he said, Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you. (Acts 13:41)
As Paul spoke, many of the Jews rejected his Message and left the synagogue, but the Gentiles hung on every word and longed to hear this Message preached again the next week. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached in them the next Sabbath. (Acts 13:42)
Habakkuk Prophesied and the Apostle Paul preached the same Word of the Lord (for I will work a work in your days, which you will not believe, though it be told you), but in both cases, many of the people refused to believe.
The Lord is speaking the same Word today, for I will work a work in your days, which you will not believe, though it be told you. The Lord is coming back. The Rapture of the Church is near, and yet, many refuse to believe. God is at work in the lives of many as the Gospel is being preached around the world via missionaries, radio, television, and the internet. God is using modern-day technology to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15)
Throughout history, the Word of the Lord has been spoken, but most refuse to believe. They didn’t believe Habakkuk, Jeremiah, Isaiah, or any of the Prophets of Old. Nor did they believe Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, or Paul. Even Jesus, speaking in Person, was rejected. All the Miracles, Signs, and Wonders would not cause them to believe. His Words and all the Words of God are recorded and written down for all to read, and yet, they don’t believe.
Every person on earth must choose to receive the Truth of the Word of God and believe or reject it and stand with the unbelievers of this world who are lost, dying, and headed for eternity in Hell.
The world is in bad shape. Like Habakkuk, we see corruption everywhere we turn. The nations of God seem to be crumbling at the feet of the people. However, the Lord is at work! Let us put our faith solely in the Power of God to do what we cannot do. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (Ephesians 3:20) He is able! Hallelujah!
God can certainly……..turn the tide
Trusting in Him, Doreen
