Habakkuk 2:20 But the Lord is in His Holy Temple: let all the Earth keep silence before Him.
For the past several days, we have been studying and discussing the first and second chapters of Habakkuk. This has proven to be extremely powerful and pertinent to the world we live in today.
The Prophetic Vision of the Lord given to Habakkuk is a picture of our current world situation. The evil that is all around us is sometimes too much to bear. It’s amazing to think that the Lord gave this Vision to Habakkuk in the year 626 B.C., and here we are 2600 years later, watching it play out before our very eyes. As we read and watch the daily news, the headlines are as if Habakkuk wrote them.
The picture consists of horrible violence iniquity grief, spoil, strife, contention, unlawfulness, wickedness, wrong judgment, the forceful overtaking of cities and nations, fierce enemies, no regard for authority, drunkenness, adultery, fornication, greed, thievery, blackmail, extortion extreme indebtedness, plunder, bloodshed, jealously, pride, loss of life, murder, whole cities built by blood, idolatry false gods, false teaching and deception.
But the Lord assures us that all this shall be done for nothing. These people will have labored in vain against their own souls. Their empires will be brought down, and the Lord God Almighty will be lifted up, and the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord shall fill the Earth like the waters cover the seas.
Never fear, my friends, the Lord is in His Holy Temple: let all the Earth keep silence before Him. God is on His Throne. He is in control of His Earth and all His Creation. One day, He will turn the tide, and at that time, the entire Earth will be in silence before Him. We must put our trust in the Lord God and His Mighty Power.
Today, let us be still before the Lord and know that He is God and He is able to do that which we cannot do. God is at work. He is for us, and if He be for us, who can be against us?
Only God can…….. turn the tide
