Habakkuk 1:1-2 The burden which Habakkuk the Prophet did see. O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will hot hear! Even cry out unto You of violence, and You will not save!

Habakkuk is a Book in the Bible that many people skip over. Being only fifty-six verses long, it takes a back seat to Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Habakkuk was different from the other Prophets. He had questions and complaints, many of which most of us can identify with today in America.

Habakkuk was deeply burdened by the sin and corruption that were taking place at that time. He had prayed and prayed, but the Lord had not answered. Habakkuk begins his Book by sharing his burden. O Lord, how long shall I cry, and You will hot hear! Even cry out unto You of violence, and You will not save!

How can God remain silent and inactive while horrible injustice and corruption are practiced by the rich, leaving the poor to suffer? Habakkuk was discouraged that the Lord God had not responded to his cries and pleading. He was frustrated because he knew God was able to do something, and yet, He seemed to do nothing.

He continues in Verse 3-4 Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? For spoiling and violence are before me: and there are who raise up strife and contention. Therefore the Law is slacked, and judgment does never go forth: for the wicked does compass about the righteous: therefore wrong judgment proceeds.

Habakkuk’s words sound exactly like many Christian fellowships in America today. The corruption of the elite is so deep that most people can’t even imagine what is happening. Like Habakkuk, the Church is praying for God to heal our land and yet it seems to only get worse. We are praying for the corruption to be exposed and the people to be brought to justice, and yet with every passing day, another level of corruption is piled on the last. There is no justice or adherence to the Constitution or Laws of our land.

Like Habakkuk, we pray, Oh Lord, how long shall we cry and You will not hear?  Why will you not answer the prayers of your people? How long, O Lord, will you allow the wicked to prevail? Is this your prayer and the prayer of your fellowship?

Hold on! God does not sleep. He is at work! He hears our prayers! Proverbs 15:29 The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

Tomorrow we will continue in our study of Habakkuk.  For today…..HOLD ON!

God is at work and will soon……..turn the tide
