Identity In Jesus Christ

1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the Victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

To be victorious over the enemy, one must have faith in Jesus Christ and His Sacrificial Work on the Cross. It is there He gained victory over Satan and all his demons. Without faith in Jesus and His Work on the Cross, there is no Victory. Neither is there hope for eternal life in Heaven nor abundant life on earth. Without Christ, there is nothing except what the world has to offer, which is pain, suffering, and death.

In 1978, a man named Karl Wallenda fell to his death doing something he had successfully done hundreds of times before. Karl was a tightrope walker in the circus. He was one of the best. He was confident in his ability to be successful, and he was, that is, until 1978, when he fell to his death. Many wondered, "What happened this time? Why did he fall?"

When interviewing Karl’s wife, she recounted that for three months prior to his death, Karl had changed his focus. For some reason, all he talked about was “not falling.” Prior he talked of nothing except “walking.” When his focus changed, his result changed.

Some would argue that his focus on “not falling” was still positive, but it was not. To think about falling or not falling is still all about falling. Prior to this time, falling never entered his mind. His thoughts were all about walking.

As Christians, we must be all about walking in faith and being victorious. When we focus on the sin in our lives, we will never find victory. An example of this is the people who have been delivered from alcoholism but still refer to themselves as alcoholics. At AA meetings they all say, “Hello, my name is ___________ and I am an alcoholic." If they are saved, healed, and delivered, that is a lie!

They are not an alcoholic, they are an overcomer, a victor in Christ Jesus. The old man may have been an alcoholic, but they are no longer the old man. They are now the new man. They have put on the new self, saved, healed, and delivered! Sin has no dominion over them. They are victorious due to their faith in what Jesus did on the Cross of Calvary!

We will be what we perceive ourselves to be. If all you talk about is your failures, you will continue to fail. However, when we know that we are overcomers through Christ and think of ourselves as victorious, we will be victorious.

The great Apostle Paul wrote these powerful words to the Philippians:  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just,  whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—-meditate on these things.

Many well-known authors and philosophers have come to this same conclusion: "You are what you think." This is a true statement both in the natural and in the spiritual.

Pray about how you see yourself. Consider your thoughts and speech. Who do you say you are? How do you see yourself? Are you a Victor in Jesus or are you a victim of your past? You are what you think.

Faith in Jesus and the Cross will……..turn the tide
