Idolatry

Habakkuk 2:18-20 What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it, the molded image, a teacher of lies, that the maker of its mold should trust in it, to make mute idols? Woe to him who says to wood, "Awake!" to silent stone, "Arise! It shall teach!" Behold it is overlaid with gold and silver, yet in it there is no breath at all.

In the Prophetic Vision given to Habakkuk, the Lord is very clear about the evil that is to come upon the world and His people. In Verses 18-20, God addresses idolatry. We know this is important as the Lord gave it to Moses as Number One in the Ten Commandments: You shall not make unto yourself any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the Earth. You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them.

Jesus made it far simpler when He said You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

The Lord said through Habakkuk that any idol is no more than a dead piece of material that is unable to teach or preach anything. It may look beautiful on the outside, but there is nothing of any substance on the inside. Behold it is overlaid with gold and silver, yet in it there is no breath at all.

He warns those who even speak to such idols, Woe to him who says to wood, “Awake!” to silent stone, “Arise! It shall teach!” Rather, as citizens of the Kingdom of God, we worship and pray to a Living Savior, who overcame death and the grave and is alive today as He sits at the Right Hand Throne of the Heavenly Father. He is our intercessor, hearing our prayers and passing on our praises and requests to the Father. He is the source of every blessing from God. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. To Him we bow down, pray, and worship.

To place our faith and trust in anything or anyone else would be to break the First Commandment of God. This is sin. We are commanded to place our full faith and trust in the Living God, who consists of the Heavenly Father, His Son Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit of God, and the Word of God, all of whom are alive!

They are all we need. They have the ability to bless us, save us, heal us, teach us, and deliver us from sin, death, and all bondage of the enemy. There is nothing they cannot do. No part of God is dead or will ever die.

The lyrics to an old hymn are coming to my mind right now: I serve a Risen Savior, He’s in the world today. I know that He is living whatever man may say. I see His Hand of Mercy; I hear His Voice of cheer, and just the time I need Him, He’s always near. He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way. He lives! He lives! Salvation to impart. You ask me how I know He lives; He lives within my heart.

The Living God will……..turn the tide
