Lamb And Shepherd

John 1:36  And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”

John 10:4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

Jesus was both the Lamb and the Shepherd. Sent out of Divine Love for all the peoples of the world, Jesus, the Perfect Lamb of God, was Sacrificed for all sin, past, present, and future. Having been resurrected from the dead, He is now the Shepherd. He was both the Lamb AND the Shepherd.

Sheep are stupid animals and cannot take care of themselves, let alone other sheep. That’s why they need a shepherd. Many people use sheepdogs to shepherd their sheep, and they do an excellent job. God created these dogs with natural instincts that enable them to perform with tremendous excellence. These dogs are incredibly intelligent and can herd the sheep, move the herd as well as protect them.

A good dog is equivalent to having two or three people in the field. They are tremendously loyal and tenacious and will guard their flock with their very life.  Listening for the commands of their master, they obey and get the task done. If you ever have the opportunity to watch a good dog work sheep take it because you will be amazed at what they can do. There are several breeds of dogs that are used for this purpose, one of the best is the Australian Shepherd.

Most adult animals will protect their own, but not sheep. No lamb will grow up to be a shepherd. There was only one Lamb that ever went on to be a Shepherd. Only the Lamb of God accomplished this. Like so many baby lambs, Jesus was born to go to the Cross to be the final Sacrifice for sin. His dead Body was then placed in a tomb, but He did not remain there. He was resurrected from the grave to become the Great Shepherd. He went from Lamb to Shepherd. Awesome!

Jesus was the Perfect Sacrificial Lamb, and He is still the Perfect Shepherd. He cares for His flock and never gives up on a single one. We are like dumb sheep that are constantly running away, wandering off, or getting into trouble, but our Great Shepherd is always there to gently guide us back into the fold.

Only the Master can turn a lamb into a shepherd, and He did just that with His One Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Give Him praise today for what He has done! For He alone is good!

He alone can…….....turn the tide

Praising Him,      Doreen
