Law Fulfilled

Luke 24:44 These are the Words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.

Jesus came to fulfill the Law of Moses AND the Prophecies found in the writings of the Prophets and the Psalms. EVERY Word in the Bible was given to people by the Holy Spirit of God. (2 Timothy 3:16) In Old Testament times, God spoke through His Prophets, and in most cases, He used symbolism. It has been said that the Old Testament is Jesus concealed and the New Testament is Jesus revealed.

However, the Laws were spelled out clearly and in detail. Some of the Laws said that anything God declared to be common or unclean was not to be touched or eaten, period! For more than 1,500 years they attempted to live by all these Laws because this was all they knew. Even after Jesus came, they still kept many of the Laws, especially those pertaining to that which was unclean and the dietary laws. However, in the 10th Chapter of the Book of Acts, we find that God appeared to Peter in a Vision and spoke to him in regard to these things.

Jesus had told them that He came to fulfill the Law. Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. (Matthew 5:17) They heard Him speak these Words but they didn’t understand what He meant. They were living in New Testament times while trying to keep Old Testament Laws which actually meant that the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary was not enough. They thought Jesus’ Sacrifice on the Cross ONLY paid for their sins once and for all and because of that, the Sacrificial Laws were no longer necessary but the shed Blood of Christ covered far more than that! ALL the Law was fulfilled by Him and Peter was the first to receive this Truth one day at noon while he sat on the roof praying. It would come to him through a Vision and five spoken Words by God.

Yesterday, we discussed in detail, the symbolic Vision Peter received. In short, it meant that there were no longer any unclean people on earth. Jesus died for the sins of EVERY person EVERYWHERE! After Peter got the picture, then God spoke. And a Voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” (Acts 10:13)

Peter had heard the Voice of the Lord, so he quickly recognized it but what the Lord was instructing him to do went against everything he knew so he argued with God. But Peter said, not so Lord: for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean. (Acts 10:14) Peter knew the Law. Had God changed His Mind about this? No, God had not changed His Mind. He had sent His Only Son to fulfill these Laws and it was time the world knew it! The New Covenant was about to be put in place! To be continued tomorrow…………..

Jesus came to……….turn the tide……….and He did it!

Praise God!        Doreen
