Let God Use You

Luke 5:3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.

In the Fifth Chapter of Luke, we read where Jesus had been teaching the people on the shoreline. The great multitude of people were so wanting to hear what the Lord had to say, they gathered close to Him. Luke recounts what happened like this: So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the Word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,

The people were crowding Him, so He looked around and saw two boats nearby. He wanted to move back away from the crowd so they could all hear Him so He asked to borrow Simon Peter’s boat. ..saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land.

From out in the water in a boat, Jesus could speak to all the people gathered on the shore. As He spoke, the sound waves of His Voice would bounce off the water, and everyone present on the beach could hear perfectly the Words of the Lord.

Jesus had created a platform from which to speak, and He did it by borrowing Peter’s boat. Peter never questioned Jesus; He just let Him use his boat. Jesus did not just take Peter’s boat. Rather, He USED Peter and his boat. Peter went with Jesus. He operated the boat that Jesus then used to speak to the people. Peter had no idea what Jesus was about to do; he simply acted in obedience to what the Lord asked of him.

This is a powerful lesson for all of us. God gives us the ability to acquire things, He wants to use us and what we have to bring all glory to Him. We discussed this the other day, but here’s a reminder. And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His Covenant. (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Peter was a good fisherman, and he worked hard. The Lord had blessed him with the power to gain wealth and own his own boat. Now Peter would allow Jesus to use him and his boat so the Lord could establish His Covenant with the people.

The other day I heard a preacher talking about this, and he said, “If Jesus wants to borrow something you have…..let Him use it!”  I would add to this and go with Him because you will see great and mighty things!

Only God can……..turn the tide
