Light and Help

Psalm 119:105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

When God instructed the Israelites to build the Tabernacle, He told them to use an oil lamp to provide light. There was one such lamp. It had seven branches each having a light at the top. We know this as a menorah and we see it at Christmas time. The Hebrew word for lamp is ner. You shall also make a lampstand of pure gold. Exodus 25:31)

This Golden Lampstand was the only source of light for the entire Tabernacle. It was a beautiful piece carved from a single block of pure gold. The priests were charged with the responsibility of making sure that the Lamp never went out by keeping it full of oil at all times.

The Golden Lampstand is representative of the Holy Spirit in our lives today. The oil represents the Anointing of God which is constantly needed for all believers. The Word of God is our Lamp that brings both illumination and revelation to us.

The Word of God and the Holy Spirit illuminate our lives so we don’t have to live in the dark and wander around without direction. They also bring revelation to us. This is when the Spirit of God reveals things to us and we arrive at the place of understanding that concept. This is why people used to say, “The light bulb just went off in my head.” when they gained understanding about something or got an idea.

The Holy Spirit is our Teacher. He brings about revelation in our lives and does this often through the Word of God. This is why the Psalmist wrote Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalms 119:105)

The Word of God and the Holy Spirit will guide our every step and decision we make in life if we seek their help. Remember, Jesus is the Word of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14) He is also the Light. I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness but will have the Light. (John 8:12)

Just as the Golden Lampstand provided all the light for the Tabernacle, the Word of God and the Holy Spirit provide everything we need in this life. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, who the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. (John 14:26)

The Helper will……….turn the tide……..in your life!

So grateful for the Light and the Helper,               Doreen
