Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
For the past several days, we have been discussing all the lessons found in the first eleven verses of the 5th Chapter of Luke. There are many lessons to be learned, but the object lesson is: Walk in faith and obedience to God, and you will be blessed. Jesus said it like this in Matthew 6:33, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
If Peter had not been obedient to Jesus that day, none of the rest of it would have happened. Peter had no idea what Jesus was going to do. He could not see into the future, but he still obeyed Jesus. Because Peter allowed Jesus to borrow his boat, the following happened:
1. The people on shore were able to hear Jesus teach.
2. Peter’s faith was strengthened.
3. Peter, his partners, and all the men who worked with them witnessed a tremendous miracle.
4. They all saw the Power of God.
5. All the fishermen became followers of Christ that day, not to mention the number on shore who heard Jesus speak from Peter’s boat.
All this took place because Peter acted in obedience to Jesus’ request to borrow his boat and let down his net one more time. Peter had a part to play in God’s plan that day. Peter had doubts, but he still obeyed. Whether he wanted to or not, he stopped working, got in his boat, and let Jesus use it. Although he doubted, he still let down his nets in a place where he knew there were no fish. He didn’t believe it would come to anything, but he did it anyway.
We cannot see what lies ahead, but God knows. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT seen. Obedience is doing our part even when we have doubts about the outcome.
If we could see everything, we would have no need of faith. We are to walk by faith, not by sight. To live your life trusting God and placing all your faith in Him is to live a life of obedience to Christ.
God has something for each of us to do, and it will take faith on our part. We must take that all-important step in faith and do our part. That is the life God is calling us to. Are you willing to step out in faith and do your part in God's plan? He knows the plans He has for you, plans not to harm you but give you a future and a hope. His plans are made; it's up to you to be obedient and take that first step. Then......you will see the Power of God!
Faith and obedience to God will……..turn the tide
