On His Side

1 Chronicles 12:17-18 And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If you become peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you: but if you be come to betray me to my enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it. Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Yours are we, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto you, and peace be to your helpers; for your God helps you. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

The Old Testament is a depiction of the New Testament. Here we see David, a picture of the coming Christ. Jesus has called people to be His Church and the Army of God. He is calling us to His Side to stand with Him and for Him against the enemy that is at hand today in the world.

As we read this account, we see that David’s army was made up of many tribes. Many things hindered their coming. Verse 15 states, These are they who went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east and toward the west. They had much to overcome, but their persistence saw them through to David’s side, where they would stand with him and fight for him.

The Lord’s Army is made up of many “tribes.” Tribes may be defined as races, nationalities, or denominations, but just as they all came together to fight for David, the Body of Christ must come together to be a part of the Army of Jesus today. We are all one Body; One Church, and we must have the fortitude of the Army of David.

We will come up against many hindrances. The enemy seeks to kill, steal and destroy Jesus and all His followers, but when we fix our eyes on the prize we will finish the race!

Amasai said, Yours are we, David, and on your side. These must be our words and oath: to ever belong to Jesus and forever on His side. David said, If you become peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you:

God is calling us together as one Church. His call stretches beyond racial lines, ethnicity, territorial boundaries, and denominational differences. His call is for His Church to stand with Him and say, “We are yours, Jesus, and on your side.”

Given the study of these Scriptures, the questions for the day are: To whom do you belong? With whom will you forever stand? To what cause are you willing to fight and give your life? Your answers to these questions will determine your eternal destiny. I pray you take this VERY seriously because eternity is a long, long time.

Only God can……..turn the tide
