One Nation Under God

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, He said unto them, Whosoever will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

The following is an excerpt of the prayer offered by our first President, George Washington. His prayer in its entirety can be found in the “Washington Papers” pages 87-95.

"Let me live according to those Holy Rules which Thou hast this day prescribed in Thy Holy Word…direct me to the true object, Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Bless, O Lord, all the people of this land."

Try as they may to destroy them, the words and writings of our forefathers are here to stay. Although they are no longer taught in the public schools, we as parents, grandparents, and guardians of American children, have a duty and obligation to teach them the truth of our American Heritage.

When we read the words of our founding fathers there is no denying their belief structure. They believed in God. They trusted in His Holy Word. They sought to live by the principles set forth in the Bible. Most believed in Jesus Christ. While some were not saved and born again, they still agreed that the teachings of the Bible were the best bylaws to build a firm and lasting republic.

The following is a taken from a letter written by Benjamin Franklin to Ezra Stiles dated March 9, 1790: This is my Creed: I believe in one God, Creator of the Universe. That He governs it by his Providence. That he ought to be worshiped. That the most acceptable Service we can render to him, is doing Good to his other Children…. I think the System of Morals devised by Jesus and His Religion as He left them to us, the best the World ever saw, or is likely to see; but I apprehend it has received various corrupting changes, and I have with most of the present dissenters in England, some doubts as to his Divinity.

Although Benjamin Franklin did not profess to be a saved, born-again Christian, as did most of our founding fathers, he STILL believed in the “system of morals devised by Jesus” to be the best the world has ever seen. He admitted to having doubts as to the divinity of Jesus, but he never doubted the teaching of the Holy Bible; the Word of God.

It is the Will of our Father in Heaven for all to be saved. However, He places inside each of us something called “free will.” It is our free will to choose whether to accept Jesus or reject Him. Most of our forefathers accepted Jesus as their Savior, some did not. However, NONE rejected the Word of God as the basis for proper living and freedom for the people of our nation.

Therefore, we were founded as One Nation Under God. This is, and has been our national motto. There are people in America who want this changed. We must stand for what we believe and for what our forefathers set forth in our founding documents.

Any other stance would be a step back into the tyranny the Pilgrims risked their lives and escaped. We must stand strong in our faith and for America; One Nation Under God! STILL the greatest nation on Earth!

Only God can……..turn the tide
