Luke 7:37-38 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood at His Feet behind Him weeping, and began to wash His Feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed His Feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
What an absolutely BEAUTIFUL picture! Drawn by the Power of God to the Feet of Jesus! This woman was by no means "worthy" to enter the house of a Pharisee, but she did not care. Her first and greatest concern was to get to Jesus. Like the woman with the twelve-year issue of blood, who knew if she could just touch the hem of His Garment, she would be healed, this woman knew if she could pour out her life at His Feet, she would be forgiven and set free from a life of sin and shame.
This is the Power of the Gospel of Christ. It doesn't matter how horrible our lives have been or the magnitude of our past sin, when we make our way to the Feet of Jesus and repent, He is faithful to forgive. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) This is a spiritual law that God will never renounce. This is the essence of the Gospel.
The sinful woman just walked into the house of the Pharisee like she owned it. She brought with her everything she had. In those times, oils and ointments were extremely precious. People would save them in special containers. This was, in effect, their savings account. They could trade the healing substance for goods and services. For her to bring her life's savings and pour it on the Feet of Jesus was a beautiful expression of her love for this Man she knew had the Power to forgive her and set her free from the bondage of a life of sin.
There is no telling how long she saved the contents of the alabaster box, but it was probably a very long time. Worthy of nothing by man's standards, Jesus declared her forgiven and at peace, which we read in Verse 50. Your faith has saved you; go in peace.
Only the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ can do this. Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father, but by Me. (John 14:6)
Although the Pharisees believed themselves to be the most religious and powerful people on earth at that time, this woman proved them all wrong. The Power of God is in Jesus alone. Since the days when He walked this earth, until now and forever more, nothing has changed. He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever, God's Only Begotten Son, the Savior of the World.
For this, let us give thanks to the Lord God Almighty, who knows the plans He has for us. Plans not to bring us harm but to prosper us and bring hope and a future. Be thankful for the Divine Gifts of Salvation, Healing, and Deliverance. The woman who brought the alabaster box received it all. You can too.
The Power of the Gospel of Christ will..........turn the tide
Thankful for the Power! Doreen
