Mark 6:7 And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.
After being rejected in His hometown of Nazareth, Jesus and His Disciples went out into the surrounding villages ministering to the people. It was then that Jesus first sent His Disciples out on their own to minister. The Scripture says He began to send them out two by two, and gave them Power over unclean spirits.
All Disciples of Christ have been given the Power over demons and unclean spirits. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My Name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (Mark 16:17)
Jesus spoke many times about the Power in His Name. It is in the Name of Jesus where the Power of God lies. In the 4th Chapter of Acts, we read where Peter and John were arrested because they healed a man who had been lame from birth and preached to the people about Jesus, asking them to repent and be saved. As Peter and John preached, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came in, arrested them, and put them in jail for the night.
The next morning, the high priest and some others got together to discuss the situation. There was no denying that Peter and John healed the lame man, so they asked them, “By what power or by what name have you done this?”
Peter, led by the Holy Spirit replied, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the Chief Cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:8-12)
As Disciples of Christ, we have been sent out, just as Peter and John were, with POWER in the Name of Jesus to cast down unclean spirits and demons and minister salvation, healing, and deliverance to people. We have been given this Power through the Word of God. If we believe God's Word to be true, then we must believe in the Power we have been given. Anything short of that is the unbelief we spoke of yesterday.
We live in a world filled with unbelievers. As believers, it is our responsibility to BELIEVE! We must go out and boldly speak the Name of Jesus and minister to people in His Mighty and Powerful Name. The Power is still there! There is as much Power in His Name today as there was in the year 33 AD when Peter and John healed the lame man and preached to the people.
Oh, and by the way, the Scripture tells us in verse 4, even though the officials arrested Peter and John, many of those who heard the Word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. And that was just the men! The Body of Christ grew by 5,000 men in one service!
There is still Power in the Name of Jesus and it will……..turn the tide
