1 Chronicles 16:4-6 And he appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to commemorate, to thank, and to praise the Lord God of Israel: Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, and Obed-Edom: Jeiel with stringed instruments and harps, but Asaph made music with cymbals; Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests regularly blew the trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God.
In the days of old, the people worshiped continually, every day except on the Sabbath Day which was a day of rest. Sacrifices were brought at 9 am and again at 3 pm every day except on the Sabbath. David appointed certain people to minister before the Ark giving thanks, recording and praising the Lord. Others were appointed to sing and play music and the Scripture says they did it continually, six days a week. Then, they rested on the Sabbath Day.
Due to the Ultimate Sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, we no longer need to take Sacrifices to the church, but we are still to worship God every day. Somewhere along the way over the past 2,000 years, for the majority of believers, the daily practice of worshiping has diminished to one hour a week on Sunday.
Jesus’ Sacrifice on the Cross did bring a halt to daily sacrificing animals at the Temple, but it was not intended to bring a halt to worshiping God on a daily basis. God still wants His people to worship Him continually. Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His Name. (Hebrews 13:15)
The contrast between worshiping six days a week and resting on the seventh day, to worshiping one hour a week and living in the world the remaining six days, is astounding. Actually, it’s pitiful.
It’s no wonder our country is in the condition it is in. The apathy of the Body of Christ is responsible. We cannot blame the spiritually lost people for anything. The Church has stopped worshiping God on a daily basis and to add to that, in many cases, the message being preached from the pulpit is a watered down version of the True Gospel or a false gospel.
God is still God and He still sits on the Throne. He still demands the continual praise and worship of His people. He is calling His Church to repentance. It’s time to wake up! Turn from the wicked ways of the world and turn back to Him….EVERY DAY, all day long; continually.
He is worthy of our continual praise. His Word is worthy of being read in our homes every day. His Name is worthy of being lifted up in honor. And yet, most believers only give Him one hour a week. I don’t think this makes God too happy.
If we are to live our lives pleasing to God, we must continually offer the sacrifice of praise to Him, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His Name.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;(Philippians 4:6)
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.(Ephesians 6:18)
When the Church repents God will……..turn the tide
