Rest And Strength In The Rock

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

For the past several days we have been discussing the symbolism and events of the 17th Chapter of Exodus. We found that Moses found both rest and strength in the Rock (Christ). Is it possible to find both rest and strength in the same object?

The Meriam-Webster Dictionary defines rest as, repose, sleep; specifically: a bodily state characterized by minimal functional and metabolic activities. 2 a: freedom from activity or labor; b: a state of motionlessness or inactivity c: the repose of death. 3: a place for resting or lodging. 4: peace of mind or spirit.

This same Dictionary defines strength as the quality or state of being physically strong. : the ability to resist being moved or broken by a force. : the quality that allows someone to deal with problems in a determined and effective way.

With the definitions of both rest and strength before us, again I pose the question:  Is it possible to find both rest and strength in the same object? The answer to this question is, No in the natural…..but YES in the spiritual!

God created every human being, spirit, soul, and body, with our spirit being the part that was created before the foundation of the earth and will live on eternally in either Heaven or Hell. All spirits live forever. As we allow the Holy Spirit to commune with our spirit, we learn to rely more and more on our spirit being for guidance and direction in the natural.

Jesus said, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Paul said, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Here we have both rest and strength provided by one object, the Person of Christ.

If we look again at the 17th Chapter of Exodus, we find where Moses found rest in the Rock (Christ) and there, he allowed Aaron (Christ) and Hur (the Holy Spirit) to hold his hands up for him. After becoming so tired of trying to do it himself, he gave up, sat down, and let God do what he could not do. That, my friends, is a life lesson for all of us.

We try and try and try in the natural until we become totally exhausted and are forced to give up. Let us learn to give up FIRST. Go straight to the Rock (Christ), where we will find rest AND strength as we watch Him do that which we cannot do.

The answer to the question posed above is absolutely, YES! We can find rest and strength in the same object, but there is only ONE Object, that being the Person of Christ Jesus and His Work on the Cross. When we place our faith totally in the Cross of Christ, we can rest assured we will have the strength to face whatever comes our way.

Whatever it is that is causing you stress and to become weary and exhausted, take it to the Cross and sit down; REST! You can’t fix it. If you could, you would have done it by now. Let Christ provide you REST and be your STRENGTH at the same time. Only by placing your faith totally in Christ will this be accomplished. There is no other way. We need no other way. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Only God can……..turn the tide

At rest because He is my strength,      Doreen
