Matthew 18:6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
As Jesus speaks of what is required to enter the Kingdom of God and to be blessed by God, He finds it necessary to speak about those who hinder or offend the children of God. The consequences for these actions are eternal punishment.
The world hates Jesus and all those who believe in Him. That’s just the way it is. As believers, we might as well get used to it because we will be persecuted for our faith. However, in the end, it will all be worth it.
Jesus refers to us as “children of God” because He wants us to trust Him in the same way a little child trusts their parents; that would be for everything. A small child cannot survive on their own. Without someone to provide, protect, and care for them, they would quickly die.
This is how God wants us (His children) to depend on Him. To fully trust Him for absolutely everything in our lives and BELIEVE He will do it is to have the faith of a child. This is the Will of God for every person on earth.
All actions have consequences. For every action there is a reaction. This is both a natural law and a spiritual law. Jesus makes it quite clear what His reaction will be when someone causes one of His children to stumble or persecutes them because of their faith. The consequences for such actions is not temporary. It is eternal; forever. He says, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
We don’t have to worry about anyone who comes against us because of our faith because we belong to God and He will not only protect us, He will pronounce an eternal sentence as the consequence for their actions against us. Of this, we can rest assured.
Jesus said, Come to Me and I will give you rest. We can rest in Him in regard to everything. There is no need to worry or be anxious about the world or what those in the world may say or do. We have a Heavenly Father who will never leave us or forsake us. He will always have our backs. He will never fail to provide for us or protect us.
Just as a little child will fully trust their parent for provision and protection against the evils of the world, let us run to our Heavenly Father with full confidence of His ability to do all things on our behalf. Praise God for a wonderful and most powerful Heavenly Father whose Love will never fail. Hallelujah!
This is the Believer's Benefit of Rest. It brings with it a sense of peace, calmness and assuredness that, no matter what happens, everything is going to be okay.
