Servant Of Christ

2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ.

As Peter introduces himself in his Second Epistle, please note that he first characterizes himself as a servant and then as an Apostle. The order in which things are listed in the Word of God is very important.

Peter was a close friend of Jesus. He traveled with Him for years and sat under His Teaching and Training. Peter was indeed an Apostle of Christ but he referred to himself first as a servant of Christ. This is important because it shows the humility of Peter.

Titles in the Church today have become a huge thing. Many people are called into the Ministry but instead of being humble and a servant, they seek a prestigious title, a high position, and a huge salary. None of these things are included in the benefit package of a true minister of the Gospel of Christ.

God does call people to certain positions of ministry. And He Himself gave some to be Apostles, some Prophets, some Evangelists, and some Pastors and Teachers. (Ephesians 4:11)

While we may be called by God to one or more of these, we should always see ourselves as a servant of Christ first. In the very next Verse, Paul explains the purpose of these Callings. for the equipping of the Saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12)

Anyone seeking a title in the ministry needs to take a step back, humble themselves, and seek the Lord with all their heart. Jesus said, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

Everything in God’s Kingdom has a Divine Order. Peter knew who He was in Christ. He knew his spiritual identity. He also knew Jesus had called him to be an Apostle and a Teacher. While Peter knew this, he never introduced himself by those titles before declaring himself to be a servant.

The Body of Christ would look completely different today if everyone dropped their titles and identified as servants of Christ.

Serve the Lord. He will……..….turn the tide……….in your life.

A servant of Christ,         Doreen
