1 Thessalonians 2:4 But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.
Last week, I watched a “Man on the Street” reporter asking people if they knew what holiday this Sunday was. I was shocked that the overwhelming majority did not know it was Easter. They responded, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day but only two said Easter.
The reporter showed them all two pictures. One was a picture of Jesus and the other a picture of the Easter Bunny. The same two people recognized Jesus. All the rest had no idea who He was. Some thought He was a rock star or a hippie from the 70’s. All of them knew who the Easter Bunny was.
One of the people who recognized Jesus’ picture knew very little about Him. It was obvious she was searching way back in her memory for some information, but she had it all wrong.
Out of all the people interviewed, only one man knew about Jesus. I was encouraged as he related the whole story but then he went on to say, “That’s how the story goes, but I don’t believe a word of it.” I was devastated.
We have been approved by God and entrusted with the Gospel but what have we done with it? Has Jesus been totally forgotten and replaced by the Easter Bunny?
Jesus commissioned us to go into all the world and tell people about Him and yet our own neighbors don’t know who Jesus is. We each have a part to play. It’s time to stop preaching to the choir and reach out to the lost souls who are dying and headed for Hell.
Easter is not about the Easter Bunny, egg hunts and candy. Easter is the story of the Resurrection of Christ and it’s time Christ was resurrected in America! He is alive and it’s our responsibility to tell the world about Him!
The Resurrected Christ will……..turn the tide
