Son Of David

Matthew 1:1 The book of genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

Bloodlines and genealogy are important. The New Testament opens with Matthew recording the genealogy of Jesus. He begins his Gospel with what he called the book of genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: The Holy Spirit inspired Matthew to do this so future generations would know that Jesus Christ is a direct descendent of King David, who was a direct descendent of Abraham. (Matthew 1:2-16)

Upon his written account of Jesus’ genealogy, Matthew wrote So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. (Matthew 1:17)

This brings us to another Name/Title given to Jesus which is SON OF DAVID. There are fourteen Passages of Scripture in the New Testament depicting Jesus as the SON OF DAVID. (Matthew 1:1; Matthew 9:27; Matthew 12:23; Matthew 15:22; Matthew 20:30; Matthew 20:31; Matthew 21:9; Matthew 21:15; Matthew 22:42; Mark 10:48; Mark 12:35; Luke 18:38; Luke 20:41; Romans 1:3)

This is important because it is the fulfillment of Prophesy. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish His Kingdom. He shall build a House for My Name and I will establish the Throne of His Kingdom forever. (2 Samuel 7:12-13)

The genealogy in Matthew (Matthew 1:2-16) and in Luke (Luke 3:23-38) proves Jesus to be a direct descendent of Abraham and David through His mother, Mary, and His legal father, Joseph. Both are in the lineage of David. The Apostle Paul made reference to this in Romans 1:3 As to His earthly life, Christ Jesus was a descendant of David.

The Title “SON OF DAVID” is actually a Messianic title. In Biblical times, when Jesus was given this Title, the people knew He was the One they had been waiting for; the Deliverer, the Messiah! He was the fulfillment of the Old Testament Prophecies.

Several times in the New Testament, the people called Jesus by saying “Lord, thou Son of David.” By them calling Him Lord, they honored Him and showed their faith in Him and honored Him as Deity. By addressing Him as SON OF DAVID, they expressed their belief that He was indeed the Messiah the fulfillment of Prophesy.

We declare this same faith today when we call Jesus, Lord and Savior, but never lose sight of the fact that He is SON OF DAVID. Hallelujah!

Jesus, the SON OF DAVID will soon return to……..….turn the tide

Jesus, thou SON OF DAVID, my Lord and Savior,         Doreen
