Spiritual Adultery

1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us.

The Church is known as the Bride of Christ. Spiritually speaking, we are married to Jesus. He is the Bridegroom. He loves the Bride and we (as His Bride) are to love Him. He is faithful to His Bride and we are to be faithful to Him. Jesus is to be our First Love.

In His letters to Churches (Revelation 2 and 3) we find where many of the people had turned from their First Love. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. (Revelation 2:4)

I repeat, Jesus is to be our First Love. We are His Bride. We are bound to Him and are to be faithful to Him. When we drift away from Him and put our attention on someone or something else, we are committing spiritual adultery. This is an extremely serious situation because God is a jealous God and He does not tolerate adultery on the part of His Bride.

This is why the First Commandment is And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. (Mark 12:30) This is not a mere suggestion. It is a Commandment and nothing is to come before Him in our lives.

If you are married or ever have been married, you understand the personal, intimate relationship between married people. They are faithful to each other in all areas of their lives. They repeat marriage vows at their marriage ceremony agreeing to serve each other and stand together until death.

As the Bride of Christ, we are to have such a relationship with Him. When we turn our love and devotion to someone or something else, we have betrayed Jesus. Fidelity is very important in life. It means to be totally and completely loyal.

This is what Jesus requires and expects from His Bride. Anything less is spiritual adultery. Jesus gave His all for you. He is a faithful Husband. Are you a faithful bride? We should love Him because He first loved us.

Jesus died to……….turn the tide……..in your life.

I love Him with all my heart.               Doreen
