John 4:14-15 But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into Everlasting Life.
People without Jesus are forever thirsty for something, but they are unable to identify it. The more they drink of the things of this world, the thirstier they become. Until that time when they hear the Gospel of Christ and accept the Message of the Cross, they continue their search for something that will quench their thirst. Unfortunately, it is all in vain.
People want to live in peace and joy, but nothing in the world offers this. Only the Living Water of the Lord Jesus Christ will satisfy the thirsty soul.
Life in the world is hard and cruel. It can be compared to hard physical labor with no water. When we physically work so hard that we sweat profusely, the only liquid that will quench our thirst and rehydrate our bodies is water. Soda pop and kool-aid type drinks only make our condition worse. Some people resort to beer and other alcoholic drinks to no avail. Not until we fill our bodies with water will we be refreshed and able to go on. (As a side note, God put water on earth for people to drink. If these other man-made liquids would hydrate and refresh the human body, God would have caused the rivers and streams to run with them.)
Life in the world can quickly drain us of all strength. We become tired and withdrawn. People around us drag us down farther and farther as they heap more and more problems upon us. In an attempt to find peace and happiness, we look to the only thing we know, the world. While it is natural to seek help in the world, it’s in no way beneficial.
Inside the fence of the Pasture of Plenty, we have continual access to the Benefit of the Living Water. When we drink of this Water, we never find ourselves thirsty. We can compare this to the smart hard worker who is continually drinking water BEFORE he gets dehydrated. He stays ahead of the problem.
We can do this in the spiritual sense as well. When we continually “drink” of the Living Water, the problems of this world will have no effect on us. We will not get to the point where we have to go to the spiritual hospital for an IV.
Don’t wait until you are spiritually thirsty and dehydrated to go to the Well of Living Water, because when you get to this point, Satan can easily draw you through the fence out into the world and convince you to drink of something else that is harmful to your spiritual being.
Go to the Well and stay there. Be filled with the Living Water of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Trust this Water just like you trust the doctor who orders an IV of saline solution to rehydrate your physical body.
It’s up to you to drink the water and take it in. God is not going to hold you down and force the Living Water down your throat. It’s your responsibility to stay spiritually hydrated just as it is your responsibility to stay physically hydrated when you are working hard.
Jesus promised that we would never have to be thirsty again. But whosoever drinks of the water I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into Everlasting Life.
All we have to do is continually drink it.
The Living Water will........turn the tide….....in your life.
Drinking again! Doreen
