Revelation 3:18 I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white raiment that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness do not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
The above Scripture is Jesus’ remedy for the lukewarm believers in the church of Laodicea. Given the fact that many believers today are also lukewarm, His remedy stands true today as well.
These people believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the Cross of Calvary for their sins, but they have drifted away from their faith in Him. They are not totally sold out to Him. They have not denied themselves and totally given over to serving Him and following Him every day, all day long. Jesus called these people lukewarm and unfortunately, this is an accurate description of the majority of the church today.
While they have plenty of money and beautiful buildings filled with the best of everything money can buy, they are poor in spirit while being rich by the world’s standard at the same time. Can someone be rich and poor at the same time? Oh yes, and these Words of Jesus prove this to be true. Because you say, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing”—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. (Revelation 3:17) They have everything and yet, they have nothing.
In the very next Verse, Jesus tells them how to be rich in the spiritual sense. He declares Himself to be the Counselor or Instructor. I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich;…….. The world measures wealth by money. In Biblical times and still today, wealth is measured by gold. All gold is not equal. There is 10-karat gold, 14-karat gold, 18-karat gold, and 24-karat gold. This is how gold is measured and the higher the karat value, the more pure the gold is. To attain the karat value, the raw gold is heated up to a very high temperature which causes all the impurities to come out leaving the pure gold to be used to make coins, jewelry, and other things.
Jesus counsels us to not seek the gold of this world, but rather the most valuable gold imaginable. That being, the gold He has for us which has been tried in the fire or put to the test. Jesus was put to the test as He suffered and died on the Cross of Calvary.
You see, Jesus Himself, is pure Gold. He is what God Almighty has given to us to use as tender to possess the most precious and valuable things God has for us. Jesus’ Finished Work on the Cross guarantees us the ability to have all that God has to offer. Our faith in Christ Crucified (His shed Blood) is what enables us to be spiritually rich and in need of nothing. This is why the Apostle Paul wrote For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2)
Faith in Christ crucified will……….turn the tide……….in your life.
Spiritually rich, Doreen
