Habakkuk 1:12-17 Are You not from everlasting, O Lord my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O Lord, You have appointed them for judgment; O Rock, You have marked them for correction. You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he? Why do You make men like fish of the sea, Like creeping things that have no ruler over them. They take up all of them with a hook, They catch them in their net, And gather them in their dragnet. Therefore they rejoice and are glad. Therefore they sacrifice to their net, And burn incense to their dragnet; Because by them their share is sumptuous And their food plentiful. Shall they therefore empty their net, And continue to slay nations without pity?
In the remainder of the First Chapter, Habakkuk continues to complain to God about the attack of the wicked enemy against God’s people. He could not understand how God could permit such an attack on His own people.
Habakkuk fully understood that God’s people were, by no means, perfect. They had sinned against the Lord and had been marked for judgment and correction, and the time had come for this to happen.
Is America in this same condition today? Have we sinned against God? Does our culture glorify God and lift up His Name, or has the iniquity of the people overpowered the good? It would seem to me that the Body of Christ is in the exact same place today that Habakkuk was in the year 626 B.C.
His prayer is our prayer. How can this be happening? Why is God allowing the wicked to reign over His people? We have been marked for correction, but how many are willing to repent and turn from their wicked ways? The questions are many, but each person is responsible for themselves alone.
Throughout history, God has allowed His people to come under attack. Such an attack brings correction to His people. It has happened over and over again. We are living in such a time. God’s people (the Jews and the Christians) are under fierce attack.
Throughout history, with every attack, there has been a Remnant that has stood strong for the Lord, and even now in this time, there is a Remnant standing. Romans 11:5 Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of Grace.
Let us each be a part of the Remnant, which is made possible by the Grace of God through the Message of the Cross of Christ. To do this, we must choose to come apart and be separate from the lost and dying world around us. Evil is all around us, but we do not have to enter in or be a part of it all.
We each have choices to make every day. What will we do? What will we say? What will we watch? What will we allow our ears to hear? Where will we spend our time and money? If we are to be a part of the Remnant, then we must come out from the world around us and be separate. We must stand, and we must stand STRONG.
In the midst of correction, God can……..turn the tide
