Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
The Holy Spirit is giving us a strict warning here! He says, give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard. This refers to the Gospel of Christ which is the Message of the Cross. Giving “more earnest heed” to this Message means to never let anything become more important.
What Jesus did on the Cross at Calvary is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT piece of information we have in our brain. NOTHING is more important or should be placed before that. The moment we focus on anything else, we are allowing that Message to slip and fall away.
Many people have been taught and believe that once they are saved they can never lose their Salvation. This Passage clearly states that when we fail to heed the Gospel of Christ and the Message of the Cross, we will slip.
The Greek translation of this Passage relates it to a ring slipping off a finger. A ring is representative of a covenant made between two people. When the ring slips off, the covenant breaks. What that means exactly in regard to our covenant relationship with Christ, I don’t know, but I’m not willing to take any chances and I pray you are not either.
The Passage 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 reads, Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the Gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that Word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
The key word here is “if.” IF you hold fast that Word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
Again, the great Apostle Paul implies that unless we hold fast to the Word which he preached (the Gospel of Christ; the Message of the Cross) we will have believed in vain. I understand to have "believed in vain” is to have believed for nothing.
In these last of the Last Days, there is no time for us to slip or fall away. Our covenant relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ must CONTINUALLY be the most important thing in our hearts and remain first and foremost in the forefront of our hearts and minds. NOTHING else guarantees our Salvation, our assurance of being taken up in the Rapture, or our place in Heaven.
Don’t take a chance! Stand firm! Hold on! Don’t slip!
Only God can……..turn the tide
Standing firm and holding on! Doreen
