George Washington was born on this day, February 22, 1732. What better day to answer the question we posed yesterday: America stands for FREEDOM but WHERE does this freedom come from?
Unfortunately, the answer to this question is what most Americans today do not know. This is the knowledge that must be engrained into the mind and heart of every American if our Nation is to be restored. This is our TRUE AMERICAN HERITAGE. This is WHO we are as Americans. Our HERITAGE is the legacy upon which America has stood for 240 years.
People who don’t know who they are suffer from what psychologists call an "identity crisis." America is suffering from such a crisis because most do not know WHO they really are. To understand who you are is to know your parents, grandparents, and the legacy left by your prior generations. This is why Ancestory.com is so popular. People want to know WHO they are.
What is the LEGACY of America that forms our American Heritage? Although many don’t like it, when we go back and study TRUE American History we find the Bible and Christianity everywhere. This is our Heritage and the Legacy our forefathers left for us.
For the past two weeks we have been studying Psalm 35 because this is what the FIRST CONTINENTAL CONGRESS of the United States of America studied as America was conceived. Out of this meeting, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, which has come to be known as America’s Birth Certificate.
The men who attended the First Continental Congress understood Freedom and sought to establish a government that guaranteed this Freedom to all its citizens. Freedom is the opposite of tyranny. Tyranny is defined as: cruel and unfair treatment by people with power over others. Freedom is defined as: liberation from slavery or restraint from the power of another.
Our Founding Fathers sought Freedom and searched for the SOURCE of Freedom. They also asked, "Why are people entitled to Freedom?" They found all the answers in the Holy Scriptures and trusted God’s Word for revelation and inspiration.
The writings of the great Apostle Paul explain what Liberty and Freedom in Christ means. The explanation is not in only one Verse by any means, but Galatians 5:1 put it in a nutshell. Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. This Liberty and Freedom is the Foundation upon which our Country was founded and our Birth Certificate written.
Although all the members of the First Continental Congress were not born again Christians, they did believe they were created by God and the Word of God was true. It was in this knowledge and firm belief they wrote the following words: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Our Founding Fathers knew and believed the source of Freedom was in Christ alone, guaranteed by the Holy Scriptures; the Word of God. All Freedom comes from the Sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the Cross. This, my friends, is the LEGACY our Founding Fathers left us and what a legacy it is!
