Threefold Cord
February 2, 2026, 3:00 AM

Ecclesiastes 4:12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

The Word of God tells us that a threefold cord is not quickly broken.  Intertwined together three cords are strong. This is a picture of God’s Plan for marriage.

When a husband and wife bind together with God, they form a cord that is not easily broken. Marriages that place God in the center stand a very good chance of not breaking up.

The husband brings his gifts, talents, abilities, and experience to the marriage. The wife does the same. Together they have twice as many gifts, talents, abilities, and experiences as they had as individuals. They are now a team and have twice as much to draw from.

Twisted together, they are now much stronger, but a two-strand twisted rope is easily untwisted, leaving each strand to once again stand alone. However, when the married couple invites God to be the third strand braided together with their two cords, they become much, much stronger, and this cord will not be quickly or easily broken.

God intends to be part of our lives. He wants us to include Him in everything we do. To do this, we must read and study His Word, pray, and seek the Counsel and Guidance of the Holy Spirit every step of the way. The third strand of the cord is what holds the other two together.

In God’s Plan and Order for marriage, He intends for Himself to be the Third Strand. His Word, Presence, Teaching, Counsel, and Guidance will be the glue that holds everything together, and the result will be a successful marriage filled with the Blessings of God.

If you have ever braided a rope or someone’s hair, you begin with three strands and weave them together, each strand taking it’s turn. The braid is strong and will stay together. This is the picture of a God-centered marriage. Intertwined with God, the husband and wife will grow in strength and endurance and will be able to stand the tests and storms that come their way.

If you are struggling in your marriage, look to see how and where God fits in. If God is not an integral part of your marriage, you are out of order. That’s probably why you are struggling. This goes far beyond just going to church together once or twice a week.

Pray about ways to intertwine God with you and your spouse. When you do, your marriage will be much stronger and not easily broken.  Remember what the Word of God says, a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

God’s Plan and Order will.........turn the tide

Grateful for His Plan,      Doreen
