Acts 23:1 And Paul, earnestly beholding the Council, said, Men and Brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
Saul of Tarsus persecuted Christians by the droves. He believed what he was doing was right. Therefore, as he wrote later, he lived in all good conscience. He acted according to what he believed to be right, but he was violating the Will of God.
When Saul met Jesus on the Road to Damascus, he soon learned what was truly right and wrong and turned from his wicked ways. Everything about him changed including his name. He would no longer be Saul of Tarsus, but Paul, the Apostle of Christ.
The Moral Laws of God will never change. What makes something “right” or “wrong?”
1. Is it right because the person does not know it’s wrong?
2. Is it right because a person is physically able and strong enough to do it?
3. Is it right because it is widely accepted by the majority of the population?
4. Is it right because the law of the land declares it to be legal?
5. Is it right because it’s been done for a long time?
6. Is it right because the person was never caught and persecuted?
The answer in every case is “No.”
The only answer to, “What is right and wrong?” is what God says about it and we find that in His Word. This is why the world has tried so hard to do away with the Bible. When the Word of God is closed, moral decay is the result. This is what we see today in America and around the world.
It has been said, “That which is accepted in this generation can be expected in the next.” This is a true statement and if you are over fifty years old, you have watched it play out in your lifetime. Something that was horrifying, ridiculous, and completely unacceptable forty years ago, has become commonplace and accepted in today’s society.
However, God does not care what society accepts or what the laws of the land state. He has set in place the Truth of Right and Wrong and it’s up to His people to read it and live their lives accordingly. The Word of God is the Standard on which we are to base our lives and actions.
Psalm 119:105 Your Word is a Lamp unto my feet and a Light unto my path. The Word of God is to be the ONLY Lamp unto our feet and the ONLY Light unto our path. The words of man mean nothing if they are not in line with the Word of God.
May the Word of God be opened and read in our homes, schools, businesses, and government, and may the Truth of God’s Word be lived out in all our lives that we may once again be….One Nation under God.
The Word of God will……turn the tide
