Unconfessed Sin

Psalm 32:1-2  Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

Every person is born with the sin nature. We are all sinners. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  However, Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.  Praise God!

Yesterday we established the fact that we (born again Christians) are NOT named “norm.” We are not part of the normal, wicked world ruled by Satan. Our name is not “norm.” Nor is our name “guilt and shame.”

The 32nd Psalm was written by David, who committed some horrible sins, but the Lord granted him forgiveness! In this Psalm, David describes what it’s like to live with unconfessed sin in our lives AND the blessing of forgiveness when we confess our sin to the Lord.

Verses 3-4 speak of living with unconfessed sin in our lives. When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My

vitality was turned into the drought of summer.

“Old bones” are the result of being overworked for years and years; having carried heavy loads and fallen down time after time. Old bones have little strength left and are unable to do a days work. Old bones are brittle and susceptible to disease.

Nothing is heavier, or harder on your bones than unconfessed sin. The Heavy Hand of God will weight you down to the point of causing your bones to ache inside your body. The result is moaning and groaning all the day long. Your vitality and energy disappears as if you have physically worked hard all summer through a drought and by September you can’t take another step or carry one more thing. Exhausted by the heavy load of unconfessed sin, you collapse; unable to go on.

This was David’s condition until the Prophet Nathan spoke to him and told him of his sin. David heard and received the Word of the Prophet and fell on his face before the Lord in repentance, confessing everything to God and asking for forgiveness.

Immediately, David was forgiven and the load was lifted from him. This is why David wrote: I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Then David passed on this advice to all of us: For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters they shall not come near him. You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

David concludes this beautiful Psalm with his own Word of Prophecy. Thus says the Lord:  I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Be receptive to the Word of the Lord. Confess any unforgiven sin in your life. When you do the burden will be lifted! Your bones will become renewed! Your strength and energy will return! Revitalized, you will be glad in the Lord and rejoice! You will shout for joy and give Him Praise for what He has done!

Only God can……….turn the tide
