Use The Sword

Exodus 17:13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

As we continue to look at the symbolism in the 17th Chapter of Exodus, we find two important symbols in the 13th Verse. The edge of the sword, symbolizes the Word of God. The unknown writer of Hebrews described this symbol in this manner: For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) Amalek is a symbol of the flesh, the old self, and legalism, which is an enemy to the believer.

In the 13th Verse, we see where Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

The Word of God is powerful and true. It will absolutely defeat the enemy and all his demons. Joshua did not only defeat Amalek, he defeated Amalek AND HIS PEOPLE. This is why it is so important to read and memorize the Word of God. The Psalmist wrote, I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11)

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians about the Armor of God, and included in that Armor is the Sword of the Spirit. And take the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; (Ephesians 6:17)

It is important to note that in Paul's description of the Armor of God, the Sword of the Spirit is the only weapon of offense mentioned. Everything else is our defense against the enemy EXCEPT the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Again, the only weapon needed is the Sword of the Spirit; the Word of God. Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the Sword.

The great Apostle Paul also wrote to his spiritual son, Timothy, about the Word of God. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the Word of Truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

It is very important that we rightly handle the Word of God. It’s easy to make the Word support whatever stance we take on any issue, but we must be careful to use The Word as God intended. It is for us to quote and speak over people but all glory is the Lords and His Word spoken in Truth and in proper context will bring clarity to any situation and defeat the enemy.

The Sword of the Spirit will defeat the enemy and ……..turn the tide
