Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwells no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
The struggles we face every day cannot be overcome by our individual willpower. Only the Holy Spirit of God within us gives us the Power to overcome sin. On our own, we are nothing and can achieve nothing. The strongest of people cannot defeat Satan by their own might and willpower.
Many people believe that once they are saved and born again, they will no longer have the desire to sin. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The enemy comes only to kill, steal, and destroy the Kingdom of God and every believer. He will do whatever he can to divert your attention away from the Cross of Christ in an attempt to sway you into a life of sin. There you will lose your desire to serve God and be ridden with guilt and shame. This is not Victory. This is bondage.
Christ died for ALL sin. We do have the Power to overcome it, but it is NOT under our own strength. On our own, we are nothing. Only as we keep our eyes fixed on the Prize (the Cross of Christ) will we have the Power to say “yes” to Christ and “no” to sin and the devil.
The will to want to live for God is very important, but willpower alone cannot bring victory over sin. This Victory is ONLY found at the Cross of Christ, where Jesus defeated it.
Only the Cross of Christ can……..turn the tide
