Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise.
Believers are called to a lifestyle of Repentance. This is not to say that we can do anything we want to as long as we ask the Lord to forgive us. On the contrary, a Repentant lifestyle is one of constant and continual awareness that we desperately need a Savior.
We read in Psalms 51:17, The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise. Also, in Psalm 34:18, The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit. Jesus said, Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3)
A Repentant lifestyle is one of absolute humility. It is to live our lives with a servant's heart knowing that without our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we would be nothing. Only by placing our faith totally in the Finished Work of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary, can we do this.
When we lift Him up, we will bring ourselves down where we belong. The world preaches worldly success, fame, position, prestige, and power. The Message of the Cross of Christ preaches the exact opposite and the only way to achieve it is through living a Repentant lifestyle.
As we purposefully decrease ourselves, God will give us the increase. John wrote, He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:30) The great Apostle Paul used the term “puffed up.” We find this in his letters to the Corinthians, the Colossians, and to Timothy.
Jesus Christ is the only One worthy of being lifted up. He paid it all for us on the Cross. He gave His all that we might have it all. Let us strive to lift up the Name of Jesus every day and remember, that without Him, we are nothing. He is our King. He is the King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords. He is our everything, our all in all.
A lifestyle of Repentance will….….turn the tide ……….in your life.
Decreasing to increase, Doreen
