Habakkuk 2:9 Woe to him who covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
The study of Habakkuk is unbelievably pertinent to what the Church and the world are undergoing today. We found in Verse 6 the first “Woe.” Woe to him who increases that which is not his? In Verse 9, we find the second “Woe” which is actually a continuation of the first. Woe to him who covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
People who cheat others for personal gain will eventually come to ruin. Those who believe they can build a personal empire large enough to place themselves above the law are mistaken. At some point, they will answer to God. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13)
The Moral Laws of God stand. They have stood from the day He gave them to Moses, they stand today, and they will continue to stand. God created us all in His Image. We are all equal in the Eyes of God. No one person is better than another. God is no respecter of persons. He cares nothing about the color of our skin or the size of our bank accounts. The things of this world are of no importance to God. He cares only about the condition of our hearts and what we choose to do with our knowledge and belief in His Son, Jesus Christ.
One day, we will each come face to face with God, and every thought, word, and action will be sorted out before Him. He is the Judge, and His decision will stand; not just for a time but for eternity. We are alive at this time to further the Kingdom of God. That is the purpose of our existence. All else is worthless in the Eyes of God.
It’s difficult to watch as some people cheat and use others for personal gain or pleasure, and have people killed to cover up their sins. Unfortunately, this has gone on as long as mankind has been in existence, and is prevalent in our land today. The elite seem to be above the law of the land and receive special treatment. But God’s Word says, Woe to him who covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
Try as we may, the courts of our land may not convict these people. However, God is faithful and He WILL bring justice in due time. "As for the terror of you, The arrogance of your heart has deceived you, O you who live in the clefts of the rock, Who occupy the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as an eagle's, I will bring you down from there," declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 49:16)
Have faith, my friends. We serve Almighty God, who is the Judge of every man, and justice will be served. Until then, remember that every moment we live is important and should be used to bring glory to God Almighty, the Author and Finisher of our faith. This is our purpose in life. We have but a short time on earth. Let us devote it to the Lord God Almighty and lift up the Name above all names; the Name of Jesus Christ!
Only God can ……..turn the tide
