Acts 4:13 Now when they (The Priests and Sadducees) saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
The men who heard the case of Peter and John were all well-studied men of the Rabbinical Schools. They knew the Scriptures of Old and the Law by heart. They had studied for decades. They also knew Peter and John were NOT studied men. Because they knew little of the Rabbinical Law, they declared them to be unlearned and ignorant men.
However, they couldn’t help but marvel at them because, in their state of ignorance, they had just ministered healing to this man. The Priests had to acknowledge it because the healed man was standing right there with them. And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. (Acts 4:14)
This brings us to yet another Benefit in our Believer’s Benefit Package. That being said, the Benefit of Divine Education. Traditional, formal education has nothing to do with this. It doesn’t matter if a believer is totally illiterate. If they are filled with the Holy Spirit of God, they have the ability to minister to people in the same manner as the most formally educated Christians.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be our Teacher, Counselor, and Guide. He did not send men's books of higher learning. He gave us His Book, the Holy Word of God, and that, coupled with the Teaching, Guiding, and Counseling of the Holy Spirit, is all we need to live a life pleasing to God and to minister to the people God sends our way.
There is a great emphasis put on education these days, and I have nothing against it. However, when we use the Pharisees and Sadducees of Old as an example, we see that all their higher education and a lifetime spent studying the Law proved to be completely worthless and even detrimental, in terms of ministry and the building of the Kingdom of God.
Why DO we go to school? What are we striving to build: personal empires or the Kingdom of God? Who is your teacher?
Sitting under the Teaching of the Holy Spirit will......turn the tide......in your life.
In school, Doreen
