Will Power

Romans 7:19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.

In the 7th Chapter of Romans, the Apostle Paul reveals his inability to do what he knows is right. He wants to do the right thing but the sin nature inside him causes him to do the wrong thing. How is this possible with a saved, born-again, spirit-filled Christian? Honestly, it’s true with all of us until we understand that Jesus shed His Perfect Blood on the Cross so we may live abundant lives, free from sin.

As we read Paul’s statements we find that he was trying to overcome sin by his own will-power. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice, but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. (Romans 7:15-20)

Each time we read the word “will” in the above Passage of Scripture, Paul is referring to his will-power. It’s obvious that he was unable to overcome sin by will-power. Due to the sin nature in him, he just couldn’t do it. The fact is neither can we nor anyone else for that matter. Will-power doesn’t work. As strong as you may be, you cannot overcome sin by your own strength. If we could do this, Jesus would not have had to go to the Cross.

Sin is our problem and as the Word of God states, the shed Blood of Jesus is the Remedy. Jesus went to the Cross to eradicate BOTH the penalty (which is death) and the power of sin in our lives. When Paul finally understood this, he could walk in victory over sin.

This is the Message of the Cross that enables us to live the Abundant Life Jesus talked about in John 10:10. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. To live the Abundant Life, place your faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary. Sin is what robs us of the Abundant Life. God sent Jesus to be the ONLY answer for sin. He won the Victory over sin on the Cross for you, me, and everyone.

Place your faith in His Finished Work and the Holy Spirit will go to work in you and set you free from whatever it is you struggle with. This is the Promise of God.

Faith in Christ Crucified will………..turn the tide ……….in your life!

Thank you Jesus!         Doreen
