Words Of The Prophets

Amos 3:7 For the Lord God does nothing without revealing His Secret to His servants the Prophets.

Paul traveled with Silas and Timothy from city to city preaching the Gospel of Christ. The Message of the Gospel of Christ was received by some while rejected by most. Thessalonica was no exception but here they met a man named Jason who was a believer and stood by them. And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, these that have turned the world upside down are come here also. (Acts 17:6)

The Thessalonians who believed the Message Paul brought were saved and started a church there. Those who rejected the Message took offense at Paul and his ministry team and brought them before the city magistrates for public humiliation and discipline. However, Jason must have been a wealthy man because he bailed them out! And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go. (Acts 17:9)

Their work in Thessalonica was done and in the middle of the night, they left town and went to Berea which was about 50 miles away. Here they finally came to a place where the people were receptive to the Message of the Gospel of Christ. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11)

Paul refers to these people as more “noble.” His use of this term refers to their loyalty and respect for the Scriptures. Paul knew that if a person would just read and understand the Scriptures, they would receive the Word of the Gospel of Christ. It was all right there in the Words of the Prophets!

Unfortunately, most people didn’t know or care about the Scriptures so they rejected Paul’s Message of the Cross of Christ. My friends, the Words of the Prophets found in the Old Testament will all come to pass. Most of them already have.

The people in Berea believed Paul’s Message because they respected the Scriptures and knew the Words of the Prophets. In those days, all they had was the Words of the Prophets and the Torah which is the first 5 Books of the Bible. The difference between the Bereans and the Thessalonians was that the Bereans believed the Scriptures.

And so it is today. As we share the Gospel of Christ, we find pockets of people who believe and respect the Word of God. These people are easy to reach with the Gospel. However, those who totally renounce God and His Word are those who completely reject the Gospel. These people are very difficult to reach and until the Holy Spirit draws them they will remain in their lost condition.

Jesus gave us instructions in regard to sharing the Gospel. Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. And when you go into a household, greet it. If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whoever will not receive you or hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment than for that city. (Matthew 10:11-15)

The Words of the Prophets will……….turn the tide……….in this world!
