Acts 10:26 But Peter took him up, saying, stand up, I myself also am a man.
Cornelius was so excited about Peter coming that he gathered his family and friends together to be at his house when Peter arrived. And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends. (Acts 10:24)
When Peter finally arrived at Cornelius’ house, he fell at his feet. And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. (Acts 10:25) Cornelius remembered what the Angel had told him and it was all playing out exactly. Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. Now send men to Joppa and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do. (Acts 10:5-6)
Cornelius had lived an exemplary life as a Gentile. He prayed to God and sought after Him. He did everything he could to live a good life. He rose to the top in his work and in society while remaining humble and continue helping those in need. God had heard his prayers and answered by sending an Angel to speak to him. Cornelius obeyed what the Angel told him to do and now, Peter, the leader of the Church was standing at his door! It’s no wonder he was so excited and fell at Peter’s feet and worshiped him.
However, Peter knew he was not to be worshiped. Although he was the leader of the Church at that time, only Jesus Christ deserved to be worshiped so Peter took him up, saying, stand up, I myself also am a man. (Acts 10:26) Unfortunately, this is still the case today. People look to certain individuals as worthy of worship and they bow down before them. The Pope would be an example of this and while the Pope demands such reverence, he too is just a man like everyone else.
No person on earth is worthy of our worship. We might be grateful for what certain people have done and honor them with our respect and gratitude, but we are NEVER to bow down before them and worship them. This is reserved for Jesus, our Lord and our Savior Who went to the Cross of Calvary and gave His Life so that we might be Saved. He alone is worthy of our praise and worship.
He alone can…..…….turn the tide
I bow before Him, Doreen
