Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me To preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Jesus spoke these Words in the Synagogue at Nazareth near the beginning of His earthly Ministry. The Holy Spirit had spoken these same Words through the Prophet Isaiah some 700 years prior. (Isaiah 61:1)
With these Words, Jesus laid out His Divine Assignment given Him by His Father for the next three years. This part of the Prophesy of the Great Prophet, Isaiah, was about to come to pass. All Prophesy in the Word of God either has already come to pass or will come to pass one day. We can be assured of this.
The earthly Ministry of Jesus consisted of Salvation, Healing, and Deliverance. We read of this throughout the Four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. In a short three and one-half years, Jesus performed so many miraculous works that John said, And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. (John 21:25)
The Ministry of Jesus set the stage for the Ministry of the Church that would follow and still continues today. We have been given our Assignment. The Word of God tells us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. It also says, we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.
Without Christ, we are nothing; lost, dying, and hopeless. However, as we abide in Christ and allow Him to abide in us, we can fulfill the Assignment given to us by our Heavenly Father. Those who choose to accept their Assignment and commit their life to serving the Lord Jesus Christ will come under persecution. People will mock us; Jesus was mocked. They will reject us; Jesus was rejected. Some will not listen or accept what we have for them; Jesus was turned away by people. Religious people will hate us; Jesus was hated.
Jesus never forced anyone to do anything. Our Assignment is not to force people to do anything either. Our Assignment is to continue the Ministry of Jesus. We are here for such a time as this. We have been selected to live at this particular time in history.
God has a plan for each of us. His Plan for us is our personal Divine Assignment; our calling in life. Let us seek to know and understand our Assignment and work diligently to complete it. This is the purpose for which we were born and live.
God has a Plan to……..turn the tide
